We developed a spelling game for Scholastic Inc., a major children's book publisher. Stilton is a long-running popular book and graphic novel series with over $180 million in sales worldwide over the past 20 years.

To play this game, players must figure out how to spell each word using a cryptic clue. There is a single word answer to each puzzle. Players spell out the words by pressing the letter stones. The goal is to get Geronimo across the ravine, misspell the word and he will plunge to his death. To cross the ravine, players have a limited number of lives. By the clues and length of words to spell, the difficulty increases as players progress through levels.

This game aims to introduce new audiences to the Geronimo Stilton book series and the Scholastic Homebase app, the game is targeted to young kids and fans of the Geronimo Stilton books.

We provided the following services:

  • Game design and development
  • Level design
  • Tutorial and story writing
  • Character art; developed from a provided look for a well established brand
  • Concept direction and production art for environments
  • Character rigging and animation
  • UI/UX development
  • Music and sound design

Each player is given a clue about the word to spell using the letters on the stones provided. For the above clue “Cheese” is Geronimo's favourite food.

We created a spelling game with a visual look and story to match the Geronimo Stilton books. Our team rigged and animated two key characters. Using a fun educational game, the game faithfully recreates the next generation of Geronimo Stilton characters.

There are a few difficulty levels in this game, ranging from easy to hard. Children can choose the difficulty level according to their spelling abilities. We created and set up over 30 levels, each with its own layout for stones with letters and a cryptic clue. The level design for this game could not be entirely automated. The levels have been meticulously designed by hand, including the letter stones and clue contents to accommodate different formats.

A player can choose the level of difficulty according to his or her spelling ability. This affects the word length and the complexity of the clue.

We designed a fun spelling game to fit Geronimo Stilton's brand, and the design was inspired by a scene in the book “The Lost Treasure Of The Emerald Eye”. The game is content that can be found within the Scholastic Homebase app.
