For Scholastic, a major children's book publisher, we created a simple obstacle avoidance game. Over 22 books, 39 Clues has sold over $14 million worldwide.

In the game, players control one of three droids. The controls are intuitive, swipe or press the arrow keys to move in a direction. Droids move by hopping from grid space to grid space. A player has to choose when to move so as to avoid obstacles moving at constant intervals. The player's droid might be destroyed if they make too many false moves. To upload data, players must reach the end zone before they run out of lives.

This game is designed for young kids and for fans of the 39 Clues book series. The goal is to introduce new audiences to the 39 Clues brand and the Scholastic Homebase app.

We provided the following services:

  • Game design and development
  • Level design
  • Tutorial and story writing
  • 3D modelling and animation
  • Character Art; developed from a provided look for a well established brand
  • Concept direction and production art for environments
  • UI/UX development
  • Music and sound design

The player controls the droid using intuitive swipe controls. As the game progresses, players are challenged with unique obstacles to avoid and simple timing puzzles to solve

Our team created a modular system for creating interesting levels from scratch using props. As a result, we were able to create a large number of levels in the 39 Clues zone of the Homebase app. There are many challenges on each level, including lasers and moving obstacles to avoid, as well as switches to open doors.

Within the 39 Clues experience for the Homebase app, we developed three games. Initially, players in the 39 Clues zone must answer several questions from Will McIntyre. He then determines which branch of the Cahill family the player belongs to based on their answers.

The 39 Clues zone in Homebase allows players to complete daily challenges in order to collect and unlock the 39 clues.

After completing training, players participate in daily missions and challenges to collect the 39 Clues. Children will learn geography while playing the 39 clues games, each clue is hidden at a different location around the world. Within the Homebase app, players can customise their avatar by earning points and rewards.
